Once in a Lifetime

The sun swirled around him...she felt warm all over...felt her heart skip a beat and realized her heart had been broken for a long time...not anymore....hope filled it now....he sat beside her and looked deep into her eyes...she felt those eyes take in everything about her...look into her heart and soul...find the real her...the woman she was supposed to be, but the one she had kept hidden for so long...
His eyes...held the universe in their depths...

she could happily drown in those eyes...such depth...such passion...kindness...love...but, there was also something she didn't understand...hurt? Had someone hurt him??? who....and why...
He took her hand in his...his touch was warm and so familiar...he was so familiar...a touch she remembered...from her dreams...the man from her dreams in the flesh...or was she still dreaming...he pulled her up and took her in his arms...held her close and she was home...heaven in his arms....this is were she belonged...the place she had longed for...dreamed of all her life...he leaned down and kissed the tip of her nose...then caught  her lips with his...such sweetness...then he murmured to her...let's go home...
and so hand in hand...they left this place...walking...talking like they had been together forever....
She told him of her past...the painful secrets she dared not ever tell before...and he in turn told her his...
She discovered why that hurt was in his eyes and wanted to take the pain away...heal him as he was now healing her....how anyone could ever hurt this man...not love him forever...she did not understand...but she was glad he was with her now..she would love him...cherish him...believe in him...for the rest of her life...no matter what the future might bring...you only find love like this...
Once in a Lifetime...if you are lucky...and she was one of the lucky ones...he had found her...loved her...and she loved him...he was her prince and she his princess...
She asked him where they were going...he told her he was taking her home...a special place...a place where others lived...good...kind people...they would make a home there...together...
They walked past trees and flowers everywhere...it was so beautiful and she asked if this was it...

No he said...the place I take you to is different than this...a magic place...a protected place...nothing will harm us there..we will be safe and happy...we will be there soon he said....patience, my love...patience, he laughed...I could listen to his voice forever...but his laugh? music...pure music that made my soul dance...
We continued to walk and talk...hours went by...it was getting late...only a little further he whispered in my ear and brushed the hair from my eyes...my body shivered in excitement...not sure if it was from his touch or in anticipation...
Then we walked up a hill...over a stream....around a bend...and we arrived...

the prince had brought his princess home...she had found her Once in a Lifetime and she was home...in his arms...in his heart...two became as one..

This will be forever she thought...but life had other plans...
